Where to Eat: Soi Ekkamai

Located on the Sukhumvit BTS Green line, Ekkamai BTS is between Thong Lor and Phra Khanong. This easy to get to soi on Sukhumvit soi 63 is not only one of the trendiest sois in Bangkok, it also is loaded with great food. Here’s our guide on the best spots to eat on Soi Ekkamai in 2025.

Khao Soi

1. Hom Duan

Known for having the best Khao Soi in Bangkok, Hom Duan is an absolute staple for incredible Isan food. I recommend visiting first for the Khao Soi and then coming back and branching out into other dishes. Also it has one of the nicest interiors you will find for a cafeteria style restaurant in Bangkok. Hom Duan is aroi mak! Highly recommend.

Gao-Lao

2. Wattana Panich (วัฒนาพานิช)

Another historic restaurant on Ekkamai, Wattana Panich is well known for their legendary Thai beef stew. The family-run restaurant currently being ran by third generation Nattapong Kaweenuntawong, has been serving from a never-ending pot of beef broth for over 40 years and with some reports saying over 50 years. The giant boiling cauldron near the entrance is iconic and has been featured in countless food guides/videos. This is a must try.

3. Washoku Aji

Ekkamai and nearby Thong Lo are well known for their high number of Japanese. One of these restaurants catering to the Japanese is Washoku Aji, a wonderful sushi restaurant located on the 3rd floor of the Big C on Ekkamai. This is a mid price sushi restaurant of the highest quality. The menu closely relates a book due to its large variety of options, and it is all very authentic. Come take a trip to Japan without ever leaving Bangkok.

4. Gateway Ekkamai

If you are visiting Ekkamai another great option is to get food at Gateway Ekkamai. This mall is on the south side of Sukhumvit, compared to the rest of this list which is all on the north side. If visiting by BTS then the skywalk has an entrance directly into Gateway Mall. This is a Japanese focused mall so you will find a variety of options here including Kourakuen Ramen, Tomato Noodle, Katsuya, and Nagiya Izakaya. You will also find a casual food court in the basement floor with less expensive snack options such as Mixue, Dairy Queen, and Potato Corner. Due to its large variety of Japanese restaurants, we think anybody who likes Japanese food will enjoy visiting.

5. Chingu Grill House

If you’re looking for high quality meats then look no further. Chingu is known as a delicious option for Korean BBQ in Bangkok. The grills use clay, charcoal stoves and the cooking is done by the highly professional staff. Try the wagyu meats and enjoy the authentic banchan.

Nigiri and Grilled Giblets

6. Fatboy Izakaya

Fatboy Izakaya is proof that this list is in no particular order, because Fatboy is one of my favorite and most visited restaurants in Bangkok. The vibe here is one of the coolest in town, and on the weekends it feels like a nightclub with the loud music and celebrating. Everything on the menu is done very well and is affordable enough to where you can order all your favorites and not be overwhelmed by the bill. While the sushi is good, I highly recommend ordering more off the izakaya menu as that is where Fatboy really shines for me. The grilled meat skewers, hanger steak w chili crab, and steamed clams in sake are some of our favorites.

7. Don Don Donki

Don Don Donki is a popular Japanese discount chain with a location on Ekkamai. Inside not only will you find groceries, but you will find great pre-made sushi and Japanese foods. Their is also FATBRO outside serving up great grilled meat skewers at low prices. You will also find numerous restaurants in the mall, but our favorites are Omakasedon by Teppen, Yakiniku Maeda, Lustramen, Ma Maison, Nagiya, and winemissyou for a good pizza. Finally another great restaurant is located on the 4th floor of the mall, but I believe it deserves its own spot, which well will cover next.

8. Loong Mala Hotpot

Be sure not to miss this terrific mala hotpot restaurant located all the way up on the 4th floor of the Donki Mall. This famous Sichuan style hotpot definitely deserves its own spot on the list. The mouth numbing mala broth is absolutely incredible, and if you have never had a high quality hot pot experience then we recommend you try here.

9. KHAO

KHAO is a Thai restaurant located on Ekkamai Soi 11. This restaurant has been honored with a Michelin star and delivers high quality Thai food to its customers in a hip, trendy interior. I recommend the Panaeng Curry with braised beef for something delicious to eat.

Crab Omelet

10. Here Hai

Here Hai is last on the list but definitely not last in our hearts. Also recognized by Michelin with a bib gourmand, Here Hai is where you go for a crab omelet. They are known for their huge servings of crab meat in their dishes and are a cornerstone of the Bangkok food scene. The crab fried rice is also famous, and they also serve the very rare mantis shrimps. Here Hai gets busy so we recommend showing up early to beat the line.

Bonus: ChaTraMue

At the Ekkamai BTS station is a ChaTraMue, so get your thai tea before you walk up ekkamai for your delicious Ekkamai meal. ChaTraMue is a Bangkok institution and is famous for their Thai tea mix worldwide.

Bonus Bonus: CQK Mala Hotpot

CQK Mala Hotpot looks incredible and is known as a great hotpot chain. Alas, I have never been so I cannot add them on the list. Hopefully we can visit before next year for our updated list.

Overall, Ekkamai is full of great restaurants. There is less street food here than in other areas, but more high-end restaurants appealing to wealthy expats. There is also a higher concentration of Japanese restaurants here compared to other parts of Bangkok.

To me, Ekkamai feels a little like the Beverley Hills of Bangkok. It is a very wealthy pocket of a large city, and it’s impossible to miss. The luxury skyscraper condominiums are everywhere and can be seen no matter where you look. The nightclubs are also spread all throughout Ekkamai and are the reason most visitors end up here. But next time remember, Ekkamai isn’t only good for its clubs but also for its restaurants.
